Libertyville, D70 School Board to Hold Special Meeting to Discuss COVID Mitigations

February 7, 2022 @ 6:00 pm

Feb. 5, 2022

Dear District 70 Families and Staff,

Late yesterday, an Illinois Judge ruled on two lawsuits that challenged state-mandated COVID mitigations.

Given that D70 is not a named party in the lawsuits, the district’s legal counsel has advised that:

It appears that the rulings are not binding to our school district, but that issue may be clarified in the near future;

It appears that the school board may elect to convene a meeting to approve a resolution to maintain all current mitigations or take a more selective approach on which mitigations to maintain or remove (universal masking, quarantining of close contacts, required testing of non-vaccinated employees, etc.).

The school board will be convening a special meeting on Monday evening, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. in the gym of Butterfield Elementary School to address this matter of policy. We are complying with the statutory requirements of the Open Meetings Act (OMA) and the first available date and time for this meeting is Monday at 6 p.m. The agenda for this meeting is below and will be posted on our website shortly.

All existing mitigating measures that are currently in place will continue until the board of education meets and determines a pathway forward on these important policy matters.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this time.

Sincerely,

Wendy
